An Unhinged Rant on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

An Unhinged Rant on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Presumably, the most anticipated movie of MCU’s phase 4, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, was released only a few hours ago, and it is already on everyone’s tongue.

Even while watching the movie, I began to hear the opinions of those sitting in the back seats. It seems that; You either love Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or you don’t like it at all.

I think the reason why people have sharp opinions in their minds is because of an obvious reason: this is a Sam Raimi movie. Thankfully, Sam Raimi was able to tell us the complexity of the multiverse in his language, without escaping the awkwardness or exaggeration in any way. I can say that the best example of this was the scene of fighting with the notes between Doctor Strange and Sinister Strange. It was completely exaggerated.

Of course, there were also sweet camera tricks that we should touch on. Like watching the events inside the clock while Doctor Strange was repairing his watch, or the screen slowly spinning when Sara pierced Dark Hold while Scarlet Witch was meditating, which made us feel as if we were stuck between the universes. They all took our attention!

Do You Also Think Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Should Have Been Longer?

The fact that there was a lot of exaggeration, as well as jumping from universe to universe, and storytelling of more than one character (especially a powerful character like Scarlet Witch) at the same time truly tired people in the cinema. This is now an MCU problem rather than a Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness problem. As the universe expands, movies make you feel like you’re being dragged into a river. Sometimes I miss the simple days of Iron Man 2 and Civil War.

Another factor that makes the movie feel short is that Scarlet Witch is treated directly as an epic villain. Although Wandavision‘s credit scene showed Scarlet Witch studying the Darkhold, it’s unlikely that an average MCU fan would understand the book’s frightening impact just by watching the movies and TV shows.

Apart from that, we saw in the last episode of Wandavision that Wanda restore Westview to do the right thing. For people who are unfamiliar with House of M, it might be surprising to see Scarlet Witch in an absolutely frightening form in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was a Scarlet Witch Movie

Ever since she was first introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron, it has been clear that Wanda Maximoff is a real character rather than a sidekick (as nearly all of the “protagonists” are). All of the heroes in the MCU do great things, but almost none can deliver a cinematic story like Scarlet Witch.

Scarlet Witch‘s character arc is the most comical and exciting arc we’ve ever seen. Scarlet Witch is the child of trauma and the mother of frightening madness. This is the reason why Wandavision is still remembered in almost every detail compared to other Disney+ series. Because Scarlet Witch is a character and Elizabeth Olsen does her best to show it. With that being said; After introducing Scarlet Witch, writing Doctor Strange as a babysitter/ adolescents-confidence-booster was a humiliating move.

In my opinion, although the sheet music fight scene is perhaps the most creative in the MCU, it was a humiliating scene for Doctor Strange. We knew from the very beginning that the strongest character was Scarlet Witch and that no one had the slightest chance against her. However, Doctor Strange‘s name is in the title. It’s a sad situation.

The Illuminati’s Contribution to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness:

The smartest man in the universe turned into a bowl of spaghetti in 10 seconds.

Jokes aside, the aim of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was to show Doctor Strange what can happen when selfishness takes over his body because, in a universe where the ego doesn’t rule Doctor Strange, we’ll see that he can peacefully deal with black magic (that kind of explains the third eye, but this is the subject of another article).

The Illuminati showed up to explain what happened to the other Doctor Strange variant, and also to advertise the Fantastic Four, which will be released in the coming years! 😉

There’s a lot more we haven’t talked about yet: Scarlet Witch dying (or not), Doctor Strange‘s third eye-opening, and Scarlet Witch breaking the fourth wall. However, these are the subject of other articles.

Please don’t forget to share your thoughts and theories!
